What's a fanlisting?
A fanlisting is defined as, "A place for all fans of a particular show, movie, actor/actress, singer, etc. to come together and build the biggest listing of people from all around the world who are fans of that subject". In this case, this is the fanlisting for CSI: New York episode 1.03.
The name
The name for this fanlisting, "Bright Lights, Big City", comes from the book that is mentioned in the episode. It is called
Bright Lights, Big City and is written by Jay McInerney. Mac and Stella find a copy of the book beside the rest of the boy's bones. Stella asks Mac whether he has read it, and he says he hasn't and asks what it is about. Stella says it is about a boy who lives up New York for all it's worth. When Mac asks how it ends, Stella says, "He gets out, before the city kills him". The boy in the book is a lot like the boy in the case, in that he wanted something better, and went to the city to look for it, only he doesn't get out.
Why I made this fanlisting
I like this particular episode because it makes you realise how things aren't always what you expect them to be. I think that this episode really showed that well, and I thought the case was quite compelling anyway. They start with just part of a skeleton, on a tour bus, which they think is probably a few years old, and then turns out to be at least a decade old. I thought it was quite amazing how they followed their very few clues, found the rest of the skeleton, and actually managed to get who killed the boy, 15 years after the fact.
